As the designer we must know that we need plus plus on every single work, here we talk packaging design concept that use bamboo as medium on eco-friendly philosophy –against global warming. I am a big fan of organic and natural practices and it seems some gadget manufacturers are dreaming of going in that direction as well. Bamboo packaging helps reduce environmental impacts and promote a healthier planet. Here are a few reasons why you can feel good about designing a product packaging project :

Every box has a history –not the awesome bamboo packaging only. Before your package arrives at your front step or in your local store, materials were sourced to make the product itself, the box it goes into, the packaging and heck, even the shipping label! As companies strive to be more environmentally-friendly, they are looking at not only the product but also the supply chain behind that product.
For this conversation, the product(s) in question are Dell smartphones and laptops that are now sent off to excited new owners tucked safely in their box of bamboo packaging – yes we talk about bamboo packaging on industry.
1) It’s HIGHLY RENEWABLEBamboo is a fast-growing plant and grow up to 24 inches a day and certain species can grow up 4 feet a day. As opposed to traditional hardwoods, bamboo grass can be harvested as early as 3 years into its growth.
2) Bamboo is GREENBamboo promotes healthy soil and using bamboo also makes the packaging biodegradable and easily composted. In fact, the packaging is certified as compostable by the American Society for Testing and Materials meaning, among other things, that the compost resulting from the packaging is of good quality and can sustain plant growth for your garden!
Being that bamboo is not a woody tree but in fact a weed like grass, it grows at an incredibly fast rate. Unlike traditional trees that can take years or decades to grow, Bamboo can be grown and harvested at a much quicker rate. It’s a renewable resource that serves as an alternative material that can be used for an infinite number of possibilities for goods.
3) Bamboo is VERSATILEFrom sheets to cutting boards, fencing, tiki bars, furniture and so much more, Bamboo is being used world wide in various types of production. You can even customize your own building project with rolls of fencing or individual poles.
4) Bamboo is AFFORDABLELet’s face it, economic times have not been at their greatest in the past few years and investing in upgrading your home or landscape can be a hefty investment. Bamboo offers an affordable way to instantly give your home and garden that tropical or zen revival. Different species of bamboo are stronger than oak, harder than cedar and have the tensional strength comparable to steel. By purchasing bamboo, you’re getting a quality building material at a fraction of the cost, and is also incredibly versatile.
7) It’s DURABLEBamboo is the grass of steel! It can withstand a great deal of stress and is used for everything from boats to scaffolding. This toughness translates into protective packaging for that delicate technology equipment you are eagerly awaiting!
The advantages and possibilities when it comes to bamboo are endless. The support and promotion of eco friendly products helps individuals today have a viable livelihood, while it is also a renewable resource that will also preserve natural resources for future generations.
After it is harvested, the bamboo is mechanically pulped at a nearby facility. During the process, 70 percent of the water is reclaimed and used in the process with the other 30 percent going to vapor. No toxic chemicals are used and the pulp is dried by the abundant sun, reducing electricity use.
Even PepsiCo, advised by the United Kingdom government-funded Carbon Trust, recently looked at new acquisition Walker’s Crisps and implemented a plan to assist the suppliers of the potatoes, sunflower oil and seasoning (necessary ingredients for crisps!) to become more energy-efficient. Dyson, the appliance maker best known for their vacuums, took an exhaustive look at their supplies even working out the carbon impact of the screws used in an Airblade hair dryer.
Now many industry has come to think about using bamboo as eco-friendly alternative in many mediums, shapes and products. Especially industry with a big brand on shoulder –although not all of them as one made from bamboo at least part of it to reduce the global warming effects. So it is our duty as designer to recreate expressive packaging that have a value added –eco friendly. How’s that..?
