ndustrial packaging now being picky to use material in the sake of eco friendly sustainability and biodegradable. Coconut know as eco friendly alternative on packaging beside bamboo which both of them also no invasive and reusable onpackaging. Waco-based Whole Tree has been researching uses for coconut husks for about two years, and recently partnered with packaging firm Compadre to design and test different uses for coconut-based materials.
Coconut husks find new life as packaging lately as we know many company develope car parts made from coconut fibers, announced that it is now testing the waters in the sustainable packaging industry.
Back in january we showcased our favourite examples of Eco Friendly Bamboo product design, we thought it would be interesting to revisit this topic. But this time we wanted to concentrate on product conceptualisation, as these products focus more on the design than commercialisation. These are Products which have design purity and are likely to dictate and shape the future of what is possible in the world of design and manufacture -the packaging design on ahlidesain.com
Oftentimes, packaging is single use, We think there is some significant opportunity using our material for multi-use packaging. For one, the fiber in coconut husks is high in lignin, a material with natural burn resistance. While that’s a positive quality for packaging and other products, it’s a negative when it comes to disposing of coconut shells. While Whole Tree provides all the research, licensing and marketing, Compadre is handling the design, testing and engineering of the packaging.
With this collaboration, Compadre will incorporate the use of Whole Tree’s technology of a natural fiber composite material made in part from coconut fiber. The material is strong and stiff, which allows Compadre to form the material into various shapes for packaging applications. When molded, the material is called Coir Form.
The Coconut – Nature’s Best Packaging Design
The humble and tropically ubiquitous coconut, besides producing one of the tastiest cocktail starters out there (mmmm…..piña coladas!), is one the best package design solutions for a perishable food item ever designed by nature. Not only do coconuts survive falling from heights of 50 feet to the ground (landing on anything from cushy golf courses to lava rock), but they often travel thousands of miles via ocean waves, still perfectly protected. Viable Caribbean coconuts, which are the seeds of the Coconut palm, have been found as far north as Norway, which is why the tree has propagated so successfully from 26 latitude North to 26 degrees latitude South. Unusual and Creative Coconut Packaging Design was created by the philosophy
The waterproof, super tough coco-container is impervious to hard knocks, salt and heat, and it keeps its electrolyte-rich interior water fresh and coconut meat cargo protected and ready-to-consume (or take root and grow). All of this in a totally biodegradable package produced with free energy from the sun, water and (sometimes minimal) locally available soil nutrients.
This is just one example of a packaging ‘problem’ that nature has solved so well, while we have…plastic, which is made from nonrenewable petroleum products, pollutes air and water when it’s made (including our food supply ), takes thousands (and thousands) of years to degrade, and then just ends up breaking into bits, not actually breaking down. Plastic even pollutes when it’s recycled! (Though yes, it’s still better to throw it in the blue bin than in the trash).
Coconut Soy Candle
Coconuts are a natural fruit produced in tropical areas of the world. We have researched and developed a method to harvest and create coconut candles using the coconut shells as holders. Just like all our wood products, our coconut is furniture grade and natural.
We are currently perfecting the process of including our essential oil scents. We are also currently researching 100% natural dyes such as paprika and algae which can be used to dye soy wax naturally.
Our coconut scented candles will be 100% soy wax candles, each hand processed. We expect that this product will be available by the end of the January.
BsaB Coconut Candles are individually handpoured and hand sanded. Unlike many coconut candles on the market each of our coconut candles will be only the highest quality and consistancy. Our coconut candles also float and can be used in tubs, ponds or water features. They are a wonderful way to lighten the mood of any gathering.

RePurpose
Coconut Milk and seal packaging concept. yeah, still in concept (keep in mind on that)… This concept was so simple and creative, i dunno that it can be in mass production as sustainable packaging industry or not. But it does creative like I say.
